This government agency workplace has been given a refresh to embrace new ways of collaboration and individual work styles.
AWM Amaroo, in collaboration with Interior Fitout Group and designer Brown James, undertook a significant workplace refresh project for a government agency in Sydney. Following the success of previous projects for this agency in Brisbane and Canberra, this latest initiative aimed to retrofit the existing office into an activity-based, flexible workspace that aligns with the evolving needs of the modern workforce. Built to enhance employee well-being while promoting creativity and collaboration, the refreshed workplace is a blend of cutting-edge furniture solutions and functional design.

Project Goals
The primary objectives of the project were:
- To support flexible working styles by incorporating activity-based solutions for collaboration and focused work.
- To promote employee well-being through ergonomic and adaptable furniture.
- To foster creativity and collaboration across teams while accommodating individual work preferences.
- To create a forward-thinking space equipped with innovative tools for flexible working, such as a hot-desking system.

Key Features and Solutions-Retrofitted for Collaboration and Individual Work
The refreshed office environment allows employees to seamlessly transition between collaborative and individual work modes:
- Sit-to-Stand Pinnacle Workstations
The open-plan workspace features Pinnacle workstations fitted with Echo Panel wrap-around Curved Orio screens. These screens, set at a lower height, make it easier for employees to communicate and collaborate on tasks while sharing ideas organically.
- Targeted Quiet Work Zones
For employees seeking focus, quiet work zones are equipped with Orio Booths and Kurved Orio screens. The hexagonal, concave screens create a hugging effect around Pinnacle linear workstations and sit-to-stand Drum+ Base media tables.

Functional and Sustainable Design
This workplace integrates quality and sustainability to balance functionality with environmental responsibility:
- Mura Screens
Screens used throughout the workplace are made from Mura, a material composed of 60% post-consumer recycled PET plastic. These not only serve as visual and auditory barriers, absorbing sound for better focus, but also contribute to eco-friendly design.
The screens range in soft, welcoming colours like light pink, green, and blue, creating a visually pleasant and conducive workspace.
- CMS ‘Engage’ System
Hot-desking is facilitated by the Engage CMS system, allowing employees to book workstations with ease. This system empowers agile collaboration while supporting flexible workflows in the office.

Collaborative Meeting Rooms
For formal meetings and brainstorming sessions, designated meeting rooms are equipped with:
- Mera Table Bases
Sleek and functional, these table bases form the centrepiece of collaborative discussions.
- Amalfi Meeting Chairs
Comfortable yet polished, these chairs elevate the aesthetic and functionality of the meeting rooms.
Outcomes
The final result is a workplace that fuses style, sustainability, and functionality to encourage diverse work styles. The Sydney government agency’s refreshed office is not only an innovative space for collaboration but also a haven for individual focus and productivity.
Highlights:
- A versatile range of activity-based zones to meet flexible working needs.
- Integration of sustainable materials, like Mura, to enhance environmental responsibility.
- Improved team collaboration while supporting ergonomic well-being for employees.
