Factory Updates
3 August, 2022

Designed and built by our very own company directors Ant Scotts and Ric Lewarne over the past few years, drawing heavily on their construction backgrounds and knowledge gained from over 30 years of manufacturing in Australia. Our new state of the art manufacturing facility in Fairfield East has been built specifically to increase our capacity, our efficiency, and our sustainability.

We have been very conscious of the environmental impact of constructing a new facility at this scale. This has been a project that we have given careful thought and planning to ensure AWM is at the forefront of sustainability in Australian manufacturing.

Here is a snapshot of what has gone into the building design and construction:

  • All major construction materials and components have been sourced locally, including the steel, glass, concrete, plasterboard, aluminium, and all doors
  • Steel frames are from Central Steel in Melbourne
  • The 490 concrete wall panels were cast in-house using Boral concrete
  • The 175mm solid-concrete wall panels offer thermal ratings for winter and summer
  • The roof sheets are Australian Colourbond
  • Two goods lifts are Australian made using Australian materials
  • Lighting, exit, and emergency signs are sourced locally from Australian made components wherever possible
  • We have our own 280,000 litre water tank to supply everything except drinking water
  • We will be using the heat from our air compressors for winter heating
  • Solar panels and batteries will run off-grid for most of the day
  • The main factory won’t need lights on sunny days
  • All our forklifts are changing to electric
  • We have recycled and re-used wiring from our old factory
  • We have recycled and re-used all the ducting and pipework from our old factory
  • Our plan is to expand the solar panels into a 400kW system, considerably reducing our base load power and to share our excess power on the weekends to offset our other buildings across the country

This is our commitment to Australia to be a true Australian made and sustainable company of the future.
